WE ARE ON A MISSION TO SAVE NEWBORN LIVES
we build capacity in public healthcare facilities to provide "Kangaroo Care"
Globally 2.4 million children died in the first month of life in 2020
About 22% of these newborn deaths happen in India.
More than 80% of these neonatal deaths occur in neonates born with Low Birth Weight.
Low Birth Weight is the number one risk factor for mortality for children under 5 years of age.
There is an exceptionally simple and scientifically proven solution to avert newborn deaths.
Kangaroo Care can massively reduce mortality in these low birth weight babies. Kangaroo Care means early, continuous, and prolonged skin-to-skin contact between the caregiver and the baby.
THE SOLUTION IS PROVEN
These basic practices have an extensive literature of high-quality systematic reviews of RCTs, and have been definitively shown to reduce death from all causes by around 33%, compared to the standard of care using electric incubators.
THE SOLUTION IS ENDORSED
The World Health Organisation gives Kangaroo Care for Low Birth Weight newborns its strongest recommendation, with the highest level of certainty.
THOUGH, THERE ARE BARRIERS
Lack of equipment, shortage of human resources, and a lack of privacy in health facilities are some barriers to adoption of Kangaroo Care.
